Titulo: Magnetismo inducido por defectos: un fenómeno general en la física del estado sólido

Abstract:

The influence of defects, like vacancies and non-magnetic ions in a concentration of roughly 5%, can trigger magnetic order above room temperature in nominally non-magnetic materials. This phenomenon has been observed in very different materials, like graphite-based materials, SiC and a large list of oxides without magnetic ions. After a general introduction showing examples of graphite and recent experiments in carbon nanotubes, the talk will describe recent advances on triggering magnetic order by the systematic creation of a minimum amount of cationic vacancies, stable at room temperature in ZnO. I will discuss new experimental results obtained from magnetization, magnetoresistance, magneto-photoconductivity and x-ray magnetic circular dichroism measurements on oxides microstructures. Defects like oxygen vacancies also play a mayor role in triggering magnetic order at high temperatures in Fe-based oxides like Zn-Ferrites.
