Título:TiO2 modificado con Haces de Iones para purificación avanzada de agua en el marco del proyecto WATER

Abstract: The inadequate access to clean water and sanitation is one of the most pervasive problems afflicting people throughout the world. Titanium dioxide (TiO2) is an oxide semiconductor with good performances about water purification and treatment: it is abundant, innocuous (bulk), present high stability in aqueous solution under irradiation, and has a relevant photocatalytic activity. Recently, extensive efforts have been made in enhancing the process efficiency of this material.
In order to improve the photocatalytic efficiency of TiO2, we are following different approaches in WATER project e.g. enhancing the surface area of TiO2 by synthesizing TiO2 nanowires and nanotubes (Fig. 1 a) and b), reducing the electrons/holes recombination by gold nanoclusters originally embedded in a TiO2 thin layer and ion beam modification of TiO2. (Fig. 1d). In this talk we will focus on some recent results regarding the photocatalytic modification of TiO2 by ion doping and swift heavy ions irradiation.
