Desarrollo de análisis 3D con haces de iones en la línea de nanohaz de CENBG :  tomografía STIM y PIXE:

The use of ion microbeams as a probe for computed tomography has proven to be a powerful tool for the three-dimensional characterization of specimens a few tens of micrometers in size. At CENBG, this technique was initially developed for applications in cell biology on the previous micro-beam line. However, the recently installation of the high resolution focused beam line on the AIFIRA (“Applications Interdisciplinaires des Faisceaux d’Ions en Région Aquitaine”) facility has opened new perspectives. This nanobeam line, based on a doublet-triplet configuration of Oxford Microbeam Ltd. OM-50™ quadrupoles, offers the opportunity to focus protons, deuterons and alpha particles in the MeV energy range to a sub-micrometer beam spot.

The implementation of computed tomography on the nanobeam line has required a careful design of the analysis chamber, especially microscopes for precise sample visualisation and a step motor coupled to a goniometer ensures the rotation motion.

The beam line design and the tomography setup will be shown. Finally, first experiments on reference samples will show the capabilities of the technique in terms of spatial resolution and stability. The analysis of geological and biological samples will be also presented.
