The new volume of the Revista Española de Física (Vol. 29, N.3), edited by the Spanish Royal Society of Physics, includes the paper “La canalización iónica en cristales: cuando la sobra de los átomos permite detectar defectos”, written by Andrés Redondo Cubero, researcher at CMAM. It is an informative article celebrating the 50º aniversary of the theoretical formulation (by Jens Lindhard) of ion channelling phenomenon.

This is one of the ion beam techniques available at CMAM for the analysis of crystalline materials, especially powerful for the detection of impurities, defects and amorphous layers.

We encourage you to read it (in Spanish).

CMAM started the 2015 Summer Science Campus

logo campus2015 Summer Science Campus started last June 29th in the Centre for Microanalysis of Materials (CMAM) of the UAM with a visit to electrostatic ion accelerator. In this sixth edition will participate more than 1900 Students 1st high school and 4th ESO who they will create 64 research projects in 16 Spanish universities with the Excellence International Distinctive (CEI).

CMAM participates again in the Summer Campus Science with the project " Descubriendo falsificaciones de monedas con un acelerador de partículas".

2015 Campus Summer Science

Continuing with the development of the program “2015 Campus Summer Science”, organized by CEI CSIC-UAM and co-organized by the UCCUAM (Unit for Scientific Culture of the UAM) and supported by MEC, FECYT and “Fundación la Caixa”, the CMAM will carry out the activity “Descubriendo falsificacionesde monedas con un acelerador de partículas”.

Students 1st high school and 4th ESO will have the opportunity to know a high-tech facility and they will be able to familiarize with its use and the physical principles that govern it, using the electrostatic ion accelerator and other CMAM facilities for a demo application.

They will come from different parts of Spain and they will know our laboratory and other UAM laboratories through different activities and guided visits that the program has organized. This activity will take place during the month of July and it will be divided into groups of 7 students. They will be attended by André Redondo Cubero (UAM researcher), Aranzazu Maira Vidal (CMAM Technical support engineer), several PhD studenta and two High School Teacher. The objectives will be:

  • - To understand the structure of matter and the physical processes of ion-matter interaction.
  • - To understand the physical principles of some techniques used for materials analysis.
  • - To understand the processes of ion acceleration, so the functionality of an electrostatic accelerator and associated instrumentation.
  • - To design an ion beam experiment: selection of the type and number of measures in relation to the samples and the problem that the study wants to solve.
  • - To carry out the experiment following the procedure for obtaining the characteristic parameters of the materials to be studied.
  • - To present the results, performing a selection of the most effective results.

Renovation Audit to ISO 9001:2008 for the "Delivery of Ion Beams" of CMAM

The CMAM quality management system has been recently submitted to the annual revision by the company SGS ICS Ibérica.

Three years after its certification the QMS has proveed to be solid and efficient passing the revision with zero no-conformity.
