Title: The National Accelerator Centre (CNA), centre for the scientific and technological community for multidisciplinary research with accelerators

Abstract: The National Accelerator Center (CNA) is a centre belong to the “Universidad de Sevilla”, the “Junta de Andalucía” and CSIC, whose mission is the development of research in particle accelerators and their multiple applications. The Centre is recognized as a Singular Scientific-Technical Facility (ICTS) with an unique location,  being an open center for the national and international scientific and technological community. This recognition as a ICTS has been recently renewed in November 2018.

The research in the centre is based on six major infrastructures that it has:

a) The 3 MV Tandem accelerator, a powerful tool for materials Science and nuclear instrumentation, whose potential has increased with the incorporation of a new line for experimentation with neutrons.

b) The Cyclotron accelerator, radiopharmaceutical factory with an external beamline for irradiation with charged particles.

c) The Tandetron accelerator for AMS, which finds long-lived radionuclides in the environment with large demands in oceanographic and nuclear industry applications.

d) The MICADAS compact accelerator, dedicated to the dating of samples with 14C, with a very notable increase in its forensic use.

e) The 60Co irradiator, source of photons for irradiation of aerospace and biological components.

f) The PET-CT scan, a cyclotron complement for cancer diagnosis.

In this seminar, we will describe the strategic plan of the center for the 2017-2021 period, speaking about the different lines of research. We will indicate the main challenges and priorities that the centre considers for the near future in response to the continuous demand made by the scientific community and society.
