Title: Gamma-ray emission as an analytical method

Abstract:  PIGE (Particle Induced Gamma -ray Emission) is useful for the detection of light elements (Li , Be, B, F , Na, Mg, Al, Si, P ), in particular in combination with the technique PIXE (Particle Induced X -ray Emission) to close the composition of multi-element arrays in the 100%. Although it has been applied in several laboratories for many years, some important activities is being made at this moment in order to this technique can become routine and enrich the possibilities offered by an analytical strategy type full IBA.

In this talk, the main issue is PIGE in order to clarify the physical principles of the technique, explaining which tools must be available and detailling how one comes to the determination of light elements on a unknown target. Particular emphasis will be placed in the instrumentation available in CMAM and in the activities that have been made to develop PIGE in the Centre.
