CMAM - Madrid
Category:
Informal seminars at the Accelerator

Description

Speaker: Alessandro Zucchiatti.

The IBA techniques have grown enormously in the field of Archaeometry because of the curator has found an instrument which allow the preservation of the integrity of such precious and valuable objects. In fact, these techniques are presented by the scientific community like non-destructive, and the issue of possible damage by the ion-sample interaction has been placed in the background. However, the ion beams are also a very effective instrument for the transformation of materials and getting new properties in the laboratory (optical, mechanical, magnetic, ...). The physics of the interaction is the same and is important to do a consideration where is the border between modification and analysis. In the talk, we are going to see many of the channels of interaction, the conditions of a Archaeometry measure, and talk about the potential risks in an IBA analysis of heritage objects, basing us on data of Archaeometry and within the framework of materials science.
